SYRACUSE, New York (Ticker) -- Although seeded sixth, Wisconsin
will take on its third straight lower-seeded opponent on Friday.
The Badgers face No. 10 North Carolina State in the Syracuse
Region on Friday, with the winner meeting North Carolina or
Villanova on Sunday.
After eliminating 11th-seeded Northern Iowa last Friday,
Wisconsin went on an 18-5 run to dispose of No. 14 Bucknell,
71-62, on Sunday for its seventh win in eight outings.
Mike Wilkinson scored 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds,
Alando Tucker made 15-of-18 free throws and finished with 17
points and
Zach Morley added 15 to lead the Badgers to their
second regional semifinal appearance in three years.
Wisconsin, which has trailed for just 2:51 in its two previous
games, can tie the school single-season record for wins and
reach the regional final for the first time since its Final Four
trip in 2000.
Julius Hodge converted a go-ahead three-point play with four
seconds left and finished with 17 points as North Carolina State
ended Connecticut's bid for consecutive national championships
with a 65-62 victory on Sunday. Hodge is the third-leading
scorer in school history and one of 10 Division I players to
lead his team in points, rebounds and assists this season.
Since a midseason slump when it lost nine of 12 and many fans
wanted coach Herb Sendek fired, N.C. State has won eight of 11
to reach its first regional semifinal since 1989.
This will be the first meeting between the schools.
